In addressing an\u00a0overarching hypothesis that\u00a0\u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u275dmarine ecosystem structure and function reflects a dynamic balance between oceanic inputs and internal recycling\u275e<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2013 we\u00a0are particularity focused on\u00a0quantifying processes that control nutrient delivery and cycling in the context of physical and biogeochemical ocean dynamics, and how these influence community structure and function. \u00a0Such understanding is urgently required to manage economically and conservationally significant marine ecosystems in a changing world.<\/p>\n<p>Current research projects\u00a0fall under several diverse but complimentary research themes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a title=\"Coral Reef Oceanography\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanecol.com\/?page_id=72\">Coastal biogeochemistry<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanecol.com\/?page_id=619\">Coral reef ecology<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Trophic Ecology\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanecol.com\/?page_id=74\">Trophic and isotope ecology<\/a>; and<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanecol.com\/?page_id=621\">Ecological engineering and ecosystem restoration<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The ultimate outcome of the integration of a number of\u00a0advanced techniques, technologies and skills will be an enhanced capacity <strong>to predict how marine biodiversity \u2018hotspots\u2019 and enigmatic species may be fundamentally altered by interactions between regional oceanography and global climate change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our\u00a0research is\u00a0centered on \u2018oceanographic ecology\u2019 \u2013 the interplay between oceanographic processes, biogeochemical fluxes, and the ecological structure and function of marine ecosystems.
