Successful candidates will pursue a Master\u2019s (M.Phil.) or Doctorate (Ph.D.) in the new <a href=\"https:\/\/oces.ust.hk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Ocean Science<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ust.hk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology<\/a> (HKUST) in collaboration with Dr Alex S.J. Wyatt and the Oceanographic Ecology Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Potential research themes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Field and laboratory studies of the impact of internal waves on the biogeochemistry and ecology of coastal ecosystems (e.g. coral reefs).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The ecology and oceanographic drivers of coral reefs, including deep water (mesophotic) coral ecosystems and Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The trophic ecology of enigmatic marine species (e.g. whale sharks, manta rays), and the application of isotope tracers to understand distributions and behaviour.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Ecosystem restoration and ecological engineering, including applications of artificial upwelling to enhance and restore marine ecosystem services.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>============<\/p>\n<p>The University<\/p>\n<p>============<\/p>\n<p>HKUST is a world-class international research university dedicated to: (1) the advancement of science, engineering, business and management, and humanities and social science; (2) education of the next generation of front runners, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and, (3) making societal impact.
