Congratulations to Graduates: Dr Tim King (Ph.D.) & Ms Shiyue Wang (M.Phil.)

At the HKUST Congregation 2025, Dr Alex S.J. Wyatt participated in the Ph.D. and M.Phil. graduation ceremony for the School of Science on 18 October, where he had the honour of hooding Dr Timothy Brayton King, who completed his Ph.D. in Marine Environmental Science, and celebrating Ms Shiyue Wang, who received her M.Phil. in Marine Environmental Science.

We congratulate both and look forward to their future contributions to coral reef science.

Dr Timothy Brayton King

Degree: Ph.D. in Marine Environmental Science
Thesis Title: Environmental Drivers of Coral Community Metabolism and Oxygen Dynamics in Marginal and Extreme Reefs
Focus: Investigated spatiotemporal variability in oxygen dynamics and ecosystem metabolism across coral environments in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dongsha Atoll, highlighting the processes that shape reef function and resilience.

Ms Shiyue Wang

Degree: M.Phil. in Marine Environmental Science
Thesis Title: Comparative Study of Coral Trophic Strategies across Space, Time, and Genera around Hong Kong Based on a Multi-isotope Approach
Focus: Used multi-isotope analyses (δ¹³C, δ¹⁵N, δ³⁴S, and Δ¹⁴C) to quantify spatial, temporal, and taxonomic differences in coral nutritional strategies, providing new insights into coral ecology in Hong Kong waters.
